Itinerary

The Private Machu Picchu team will meet you at Cuzco airport and transfer you to your pre-trek hotel. Later you will attend a pre-trek briefing with your Lead Guide to prepare you for the challenge ahead.

We leave Cuzco and drive to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, from where we will be able to see the Cordillera Vilcabamba and the snow-capped Mount Salkantay. Our day begins at the town of Chinchero where we will meet the indigenous people who still speak the ancient Quechua language and learn about the traditional textile weaving techniques. After, we will drive to (Salineras) salt pans. Along this drive, we will pass true the town of Maras, a small colonial town, very well known as a provider of salt to the Cusco region back in Inca and colonial times. Salineras has over 3800 salt ponds still in use nowadays and is owned by the local community of Maras and Pichinccoto, As well, you have a choice of recommendation to stop for lunch not included in the tour, after your visit, you will continue driving to Ollantaytambo, considered the last living Inca village, where you will explore the town and the archeological site. After you explore, your guide will take you to the hotel, where you will spend the night in the Hotel.

We will leave Ollantaytambo or Cusco. after breakfast to drive to the start of our trek. The official beginning of the Inca Trail is called Km 82, as it is located 82 kilometres along the railway tracks from Cuzco. Here we will meet our crew porters and register in the checkpoint for your trek Begins.

After crossing the Rio Urubamba, we start the legendary Inca Trail. The first day of the trail is relatively easy and a good warm up for the following days. On the way we will pass a beautiful local villages and archaeological site called Llactapata before we reach Tarayoc. After that, we will continue our hike to Ayapata  (3000m), the camping site where we will spend the night.

Leaving early in the morning, our trail first leads through the Valley of Llulluchapampa (3750m). The first 4 km trekking are steep and take approximately 3 hours. From Llulluchapampa the path continues less steeply for another 2 hours until we reach the Warmihuañusca 14000tfs.  (Dead Woman Pass), the first of three passes on the Inca Trail and the highest point of our trek at 4200m. This climb is the most difficult part of the Inca Trail. After a short break at the summit, we continue our hike down with a long and steep descent to the Pacamayo, camp where you will have lovely lunch. After lunch will continue another two hours to next pass. Runkurakay 3900 mtrs. Then will descent for two hours to Chaquiccocha basecamp. 3600 mtrs.

Today a lovely breakfast we will start our final journey to Machu Picchu.  From here you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the entire snow-capped Vilcabamba range, before another steep descent. We will then climb up to our third pass, to Phuyupatamarka, 37000 mtrs.  an Inca ruin named “The Royal temple above of the Clouds” from there are great views of the Urubamba river far below.  From Phuyupatamarka we continue to descend into a beautiful orchid-filled cloud forest, visiting the site of Intipata (Terraces of the Sun), before reaching our campsite at Wiñay Wayna. Here we will have a powerful lunch after we will continue our hike in the dense cloud forest until to the  sun gate where you will enjoy the first view of Machu picchu  then you will descent to the citadel to enjoy the sunset of machupicchu. After your successful hike you will take a bus down to Aguas Calientes Hotel.

After Breakfast, your guide will pick you from your hotel for a short bus journey to the entrance of Machu Picchu, today you will explore this magical Inca city and enjoy learning about it was built and discovered. for 3 hours. You will then have free time to wander around and if you got a Ticket for Wayna Picchu you can climb. Note. There are just 400 visitors allowed per day. You have to book in advance the entrance, with us after we will go back to in the  town of Aguas Calientes. From here we take the train back to Ollantaytambo or Poroy depending on the space and private transportation back to your Hotel Cusco.

Your private guide will collect to you from Hotel very Early at 3:00 am. After we will drive for three hours to get to the community of QUISIUNO located in 4600 meters. 14,600 ft. In the south of Cusco in this journey, we will be able to see beautiful landscape local Andean Farms of Corn, quinoa, potatoes, and vegetables in higher altitude we will pass to Llama and Alpaca the south American camels Before we start hiking we will have Breakfast, After enjoying your breakfast you will ascend gradually for 2:30 hours to get the main point of a rainbow mountain or VININKUNKA 5,000mtrs, 15,900ft. Above sea level, Here you will have time to enjoy this beautiful and colorful mountain as well you will be able to see the highest mountain in Cusco Region Called Ausangate 6,400 meters, 20,300ft. After your free time, you will continue hiking for one hour to the red Valley then you come back the same way for two hours. Once you will get back to Quesiuno you will enjoy your Box Lunch with amazing views of Vilcanota mountain range after you will return to your Hotel Cusco. trekking time 5 to 6 hours, the altitude from 4600 meters to 5000 meters, moderate hike in height. Any change of the itinerary or departure time can be fixed.

Today depending your flight information we will transfer to the local airport.

  • BRIEFING
    we will meet you at your hotel for a briefing the night before your trek. Remember, the bag’s weight should not exceed 7 kg (14 pounds) and should include your sleeping bag and air mattress.
  • PERMITS
    Once we have received your details and deposit, we will secure your permits based on availability. These permits are issued in your name and for a specific date, so they cannot be altered once confirmed. However, updates to your passport number are allowed.

  • PORTERS
    A personal porter will be assigned to carry your duffel bag as part of our service. You will not have access to your bag until reaching the campsite. Rest assured; there are no additional fees for this service.
  • TRANSPORTATION
    Transportation from your Cusco hotel or Sacred Valley to the starting point at Km. 82 is included in the trek. We will also arrange transportation for your return from the train station, either Ollantaytambo or Poroy. Additionally, we provide the Expedition train from Aguas Calientes. You can upgrade to the Vistadome and luxurious Hiram Bingham first-class train if you prefer. The bus ticket from the Machu Picchu citadel to Aguas Calientes town is also included.
  • EQUIPMENT
    During the trek, we will provide you with high-quality four-season EUREKA TENTS shared by two people. You will also have access to dining and cooking tents, ensuring a comfortable camping experience.
  • FOOD
    Our experienced chef, skilled in mountain cooking, will accompany you on the trek. They are attentive to dietary restrictions, so please inform us beforehand. Please note that breakfast on the first day and lunch on the last day are not included. However, we will provide breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks throughout the hike.
  • WATER
    Water is essential, and we kindly ask that you bring your own water bottle for the trek. We will provide filtered, boiled, and cooled-down water from the first lunch to refill your bottle at every campsite or lunch spot.
  • FIRST AID
    All our tour guides receive comprehensive first-aid training from high mountain specialists every February. Your guide will carry a first aid kit for basic medical situations, and in all our treks, we provide oxygen for emergencies. In the unlikely event of a severe medical issue, our staff will ensure your safe exit from the trail and assist you in reaching a clinic if necessary.

Not included

  • Huayna Picchu entrance fee: if you would like to climb this mountain, an additional entrance fee applies (US$80.00).
  • Machu Picchu mountain entrance fee: if you would like to climb this mountain, an additional entrance fee applies (US$80.00). This is a separate mountain visit from the Machupicchu citadel.
  • Tips: No mandatory however is nice to appreciate the hard work they do in Inca Trail specially the crew.
  • Rentals: Every trekker needs a sleeping bag when camping. Inflatable air mattresses and walking sticks (with rubber tips) are optional but encouraged. If you don’t want to bring any of the above, they are all available for rent:
    • Sleeping Bag: $20
    • Inflatable Air Mattress: $15
    • Walking Sticks (Pair): $10
  • Day packs: Day packs aren’t provided by Private Machu Picchu. You must bring your own. Be sure you don’t bring anything too large, as you don’t want it to be too heavy while you’re trekking. Plus, Machu Picchu will not allow you to bring in a bag larger than 25L. If you have a large backpack it will need to be stored before your tour. Only essentials are needed while trekking. That includes water, snacks, camera, sunhat, warm layers, waterproof rain layers, insect spray, sunscreen and a first-aid kit.
  • Headlamps: It’s strongly encouraged to bring a headlamp for your night camping. There’ll be no lights at the camping sites and it’s hard to get to your dining tent or your bathroom tent without one. Flashlights are acceptable if you don’t have a headlamp, but they make some tasks more difficult as you won’t have your hands free.
